Sigma is a Japanese manufacturer of precision lenses and cameras. Our headquarters in Kanagawa Prefecture and the Aizu Factory in Fukushima Prefecture serve as our key bases of operation.
We are a family-owned company. Founded in 1961 by Michihiro Yamaki, Sigma is now led by his son, Kazuto Yamaki. Remaining family-owned ensures our independence and gives us the freedom to think differently.
Established in 1973, the factory houses Sigma’s entire production. Keeping our production local is essential. It allows agility, close collaboration between departments, and rigorous quality control over every aspect — from design and engineering to lens polishing, molding plastic and metal parts, mounting, and assembly. Being rooted in the region also enables us to support its culture while drawing from its rich manufacturing knowledge, expertise, and skill.

While our roots and production are local, our mindset is universal and global. As a manufacturer within the photographic community, we want all image-makers around the world to enjoy our products without difficulty. To that end, we continuously expand our distribution network and service system. Furthermore, as members of the global society, respecting universal values and promoting human well-being wherever we operate is fundamental to who we are.

At Sigma, we believe that authentic quality and innovation matter. Every lens, camera, and accessory that leaves our factory is engineered to exceed expectations. Photographers and filmmakers can always rely on our products to offer something new that expands their expressive palette while trusting that their tools are built to last for years.
"THE ART OF ENGINEERING. ENGINEERING FOR ART."
When you place a lens on the world and shoot, you seize light. From reality’s visual chaos of forms and colors, an image takes shape, holding the potential to astonish - as if it were the first photograph ever taken.
This sense of awe and discovery encapsulates our reverence for photography. It fuels our daily pursuit to make optical tools that help photographers experience the rush of discovery time and again.
Designing and manufacturing lenses and cameras—the two fundamental tools of photography—allows us to continually reconsider and redefine the joy and pleasure of taking pictures from the photographer’s perspective. Here, our art of engineering embodies Sigma’s deepest purpose: to engineer for the sake of art.
