Cinema DNG is the only RAW that can be recorded directly with the camera. Prores RAW and Blackmagic RAW are supported for RAW recorded by external devices via HDMI.
  • I don't seem to be able to select the electronic image stabilization setting on the fp series.

You can select the electronic image stabilization on the fp series only when the in-lens optical image stabilization is turned off. In addition, it may not be available to choose with certain settings, such as when shooting DNG or at extended ISO settings.

When you place the cursor over an grayed-out item on the menu, a message will appear that explains why the item cannot be selected.

  • Can the electronic and optical stabilization be used together on the fp series?

No, you cannot use the electronic and optical stabilization at the same time on the fp series.

  • What makes Foveon sensors different from other regular sensors?

Unlike regular sensors that capture information of just one color per pixel, the SIGMA sensors are revolutionary full-color image sensors that are capable of capturing full-color information with a three-layer structure. This removes the necessity for color interpolation, and makes images in principle free of color artifacts, which means that there is no need for a low-pass filter. Foveon sensors can capture all the light and color information, creating high-resolution three-dimensional images that look very realistic.

  • What is the HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor?

HLA is Sigma's proprietary linear autofocus motor. It is developed for the new mirroeless lenses and launched during 2023.
It drives the focus lens directly without going through gears or other mechanical parts, resulting in quiet, very fast and extremely precise autofocusing.
  • How suitable is the SIGMA 14mm F1.4 DG DN | Art for video recording, especially in regard to focus breathing?

Focus breathing will occur, but it is kept to a relatively small amount.
  • Is it possible to attach the sheet-type filter for the Sigma 14mm F1.4 DG DN | Art to the Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art for DSLR cameras?

No. The Sigma 14mm F1.4 DG DN | Art has a different shaped filter holder than the Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art (FHR-11 for Canon EF mount). The sheet filter cannot be shared.

  • Why don't my Nikon Z50 recognized Sigma's Z-mount lenses?

Please update the firmware of the camera to the latest. The latest firmware version you can find here.
  • Why does the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art make a sound when the lens is shaken?

The focusing lens group of Sigma lenses equipped with the HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor is not fixed in position when the power to the lens is off, which means the lens may make a sound when shaken along the optical axis. This is completely normal.
  • Even if I lock the MFL switch the focus moves. Why is that?

When the MFL switch is set to the LOCK position, the focus ring operation is disabled, but AF operation is possible. So please check if the setting is set to AF.
Also, even with the MF setting, there are some camera bodies that temporarily operate AF by operating the AF-ON button, so please check the camera body settings.
  • When set to linear focus, it is no longer possible to focus finely?

Focusing accuracy may decrease when the rotation angle is small. If there is a problem with accuracy, set a larger angle of rotation (a large focus throw) or set to non-linear focusing.
  • My lens supports linear focus, but the menu is not displayed?

Update the lens firmware to the latest version and the menu will be displayed.
  • Can the I series' metal cap be used with a filter attached?

The following three kinds of correction are available: peripheral illumination correction, chromatic aberration, and distortion correction.

    Note:
・Function available on supported cameras only. Available corrections or auto correction functionality may vary depending on the camera model.
・On cameras where lens aberration correction is controlled with 'ON' or 'OFF' in the camera menu, please set all aberration correction functions to 'ON'(AUTO).

  • Is it correct to consider that lenses and cameras are compatible with each other as long as they are both developed under L-Mount standard?

    Yes, that is correct.

  • Some Sigma lenses are designated as "DC", "DG" or "DN." What do these designations mean?

Lenses with DG mean they are designed for full-frame sensors and with DC that they are designed for crop sensors (APS-C and MicroFourThirds). DN was a marking on lenses that wa designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. From January 2025, we will stop putting DN on new lenses as all lenses now developed are for mirrorless lenses.
  • Some Sigma lenses feature an "HSM" designation as well as "OS" designation, what does it stand for?

HSM stand for "Hyper Sonic Motor" and it is the high speed AF motor used for DSLR designed lenses.
OS stand for "Optical Stabilization" and lenses that have this designationare optically stabilized.
    CINE LENSES

  • Can commercially available mount adaptors be used with the Sigma cine lenses?

The Sigma CINE LENS are compatible with Sigma MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 and Sigma MOUNT CONVERTER MC-31. MC-11 allows Sigma lenses with the EF mount to be used with Sony E-mount camera bodies. MC-31 allows Sigma lenses with the PL mount to be used with L-Mount camera bodies.
  • Does the Mount Conversion Service incur a fee?

Yes, a fee is required for the Mount Conversion Service. For more information, please contact your nearest Sigma representative directly. Contact
  • Why are the PL mounts not covered by the Mount conversion service?

The internal mechanism of the Sigma PL mount cine lenses are very different from EF mount and E mount. Therefore to change the mount, we need to dismantle the whole lens. To guarantee the performance of the lens once dismantled, it requires the same exclusive equipment as building a lens from scratch.
Considering the delivery date and cost, we have not covered PL mount for the mount conversion service.
  • Are all of the cine lenses you plan to launch come in the same size?

The lenses we have currently launched all have the same front diameter, but their lengths are all different. All of the lenses have the same gear diameter and positions as well. Respective numbers for future lenses are still to be determined.
  • Does the camera upload and record meta data from the Sigma cine lenses?

The lens mount establishes an electronic connection with the camera, allowing lens data to be transmitted (focal length, shooting distance, aperture, etc.). The data that is recorded varies by camera.

Note: For PL mount, this feature is only included on lenses that are compatible with i/ Technology.

  • I have just purchased a new Sigma optically stabalised lens and notice that the lens makes a slight noise when I half press the shutter button. Is that normal?

OS lenses do make a soft noise upon start up. This noise emits whilst the OS system is setting into position. Once the OS is set, generally after one or two seconds, the noise will stop. This is completely normal for OS lenses.
  • I have just purchased a Sigma lens for my Nikon camera, however the aperture will not close. Is the lens faulty?

No, simply set the aperture ring to F22, marked in red, and lock the aperture ring. Then use the camera to change the aperture instead of the lens.
